About Albert Frantz

Classical

Albert Frantz discovered his love for classical music and the piano at the unusual age of 17. A graduate of Penn State University, where he studied with Prof. Steven H. Smith, he won local, state and national piano competitions and became the first pianist to be awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Vienna in nearly a decade. In Vienna, he studied extensively with Paul Badura-Skoda. Albert records for the Gramola label and is a Bösendorfer Artist.

His first CD, of works by Romantic composer Charles-Valentin Alkan, was an official jury nomination for the German Record Critics’ Award, designed to recognize “the most rigorous standards for supreme achievement and quality” in the field of music recording. He recorded Liszt’s complete Transcendental Etudes for release in 2018.

As a teacher and entrepreneur, he is the founder of the popular online piano learning platform key-notes, which develops pedagogically and technologically innovative music education programs.

Albert is a popular inspirational speaker and among the most frequent contributors to the TEDx platform. In October 2015 he addressed an audience of nearly 2000 at TEDxSanFrancisco on a major human rights issue. He is Head of Mission in Vienna for the Diplomatic Council, a UN-accredited global NGO, with which he advocates for issues of human rights and social justice.

Albert is also a passionate amateur athlete who has completed two Ironman triathlons and trained with racing legends including Susie Wolff and Aston Martin Racing.

A documentary about his life of overcoming adversity to achieve goals long considered “impossible” was released by dreama.tv in 2015.

In October 2016, Albert was the cover story for the monthly print magazine of Toastmasters International—for nearly a century the world’s largest organization teaching communication and leadership skills—reaching hundreds of thousands of members in over 140 countries.
