The pieces on this CD have one thing in common: they are successful precursors of the modern trend towards crossover aesthetics. The main characteristic uniting them all is their ability to mix styles without losing their originality. New genres which emerged in the early 20th century have influenced classical music production; in particular, jazz, Latin American folklore and the folk music of the countries from which the composers originated or which they have visited flow into their compositions. The seamless and harmonious manner in which these styles are synthesised is demonstrated by the compilation of this selection. The line between so-called classical and popular music becomes blurred: Don't mind the gap!
