BEETHOVEN: THE FORGOTTEN FRAGMENT (World Première)
The composition has a structure divided into three parts, in the classic sequence AllegroAndante-Allegro, of which only the first two movements survived. The closing Allegro -clearly proves to be unfinished and formed by large discontinuos sections that unfortunately present difficulties against a satisfactory completion of the piece. For this reason, the closing Allegro, has not been included in the present recording. On the contrary, the first two movements prove to be complete and admirably joined; they also show the artist at an advanced stage of tihs artistic process. This hypothesis is supported by the presence of numerous amendments and corrections, a costant trait of Beehovenian creative process and also consistent with the style of other manuscripts.
Since it is impossible to ascertain a date of composition for this work, we can only place it within the same chronological limits as the manuscripts in Kafka Sketchbook, in other words within a spam that goes from the last years in Bonn to the beginning of the new century.
In fact, the free and rhapsodic progression definitely foresees some innovative structures consistent with Beethoven's gradual intolerance towards the traditional patterns of the Sonata form.
