Nikolay Shugaev

Nikolay Shugaev was born in Moscow in 1988.He graduated with distinction from Gnesin’s Moscow Music college (class Vera Birina) as well as from the Moscow State Conservatory (class of People's Artist of Russia, professor Natalia Shakhovskaya).He is currently a student at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana, Lugano (prof. Robert Cohen and prof. Enrico Dindo).Nikolay took part in the master classes of such great musicians as David Geringas, Natalia Gutman, Gary Hoffman, Maria Kliegel, Ralf Kirshbaum, Misha Maisky. He is a winner and laureate of many international competitions:VIII Concorso Internazionale Valsesia Musica, Concorso Internazionale Città di Pinerolo (WFIMC member), XII International Competition of chamber music in Krakow, International Music Competition “Paper da Musica” (Spain), 38e Concours International de Musique de Lausanne, Val Tidone International Music Competition and others.Nikolay is a participant of festivals “Violoncello Generations” (Moscow), “D. Shostakovich”, “Beethoven days in Moscow”, “Moscow autumn”; Moscow Art festival “Art-november”, “Glory to the Maestro!” (Moscow) arranged by International Mstislav Rostropovich foundation, a participant of the programs arranged by the Spivakov International charitable foundation and the inter-regional social fund “New Names”, of “Aurora Chamber Music” (Sweden), Sommer-Events Engadina Classica, Jeunesses Musicales (Croatia), “Cisctermusica Festival” (Portugal), Festival Internacional de Música “Pau Casals” Vendrell (Spain), “V.th Eilat Chamber Music Festival” (Israel), “The International Holland Music Sessions”, Accademia Musicale Chigiana.He frequently performs in the most prestigious halls such as: The Great Hall, Small Hall and Rachmaninov Hall of Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, The Armoury Chamber of Moscow Kremlin, The Great Hall of Nijny-Novgorod M. Rostropovich Philharmonie, The Great Hall of Saint-Petersburg D. Shostakovich Philharmonie, Auditorio RSI Lugano, Salle Paderewski Lausanne, Auditorium Pau Casals - Bracelona and others.He collaborates with conductors such as Igor Frolov, Pierangelo Gemini, Leonid Nikolaev, Alexander Skulskiy, Alexander Polishuk, Arturo Tamayo. Nikolay performs with famous musicians such as Enrico Dindo, Haik Kazazyan, Andrei Korobeinikov, Massimo Quarta, Zlata Chochieva, Fatima Alieva.Nikolay plays cello made by Brescian artist Giovanni Paolo Maggini (1580-1630).
