The term "crossover artist" can mean many things. In the case of argentine pianist and composer Dario Boente, it means a musician who is equally at home performing romantic Argentine and jazz compositions on a grand piano, as he is programming world-beat electronica.
Dario's musical personality energetically bridges the Jazz-club and the Dance-club, and is a direct outgrowth of his own life. Having been brought up in Argentina and Spain, immersed in the culture of tango and Brazilian music, he pursued his formal studies at Berklee School of Music (Boston) , the Guildhall School of Music (London) the New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program (New York) and his social life in the Jazz and electronica scene of New York, Madrid, London and Ibiza .
Dario-boente-edit-1 In the early 90’s, Boente toured the Euro circuit playing “Big Joe Turner” as his keyboard player and musical director, with pop band Imagination, with spanish flamenco singer "Jose el Frances", making dance tracks, and performing in the major Jazz festivals. In 1999, Dario moved to New York City. Since then, he has released seven albums and compilations as a leader, featuring well know Jazz musicians as four time Grammy Award winner Antonio Sanchez on drums, guitarist Ronny Jordan, Saxophonist Miguel Zenon, harmonica player Gregoire Maret and flutist Jorge Pardo, among others. Currently, Dario leads his own bands "Huge in Japan" , "Proyecto Sur", and his latest projet "Boente + 1" works in the studio as a pianist/keyboardist with R&B multi Grammy Award winner Joshua Thompson, and he has publishing deals as a composer with "Afire Music" and "Popular Combo beat".
As a side man, Dario has played and/or recorded with guitarrist Ronny Jordan, Grammy winning Louie Vega’s “Elements of Life” band, multiplatinum selling Italian singer "Jovanotti", trombonist William Cepeda, Latin Grammmy Award winner Fernando Otero, bassist Pablo Aslan, guitarist Hernan Romero and Ximo Tebar, percussionist Mino Cinelu, trombonist Frank Lacy’s “13 Piece Band” and drummer Victor Jones’s “Culturversy.” dj's Louie Vega and producer Kerri Chandler. He performed piano duets with Dave Kikoski and Richie Beirach, and played keyboards on Big Joe Turner’s European tour.
Dario has performed in more than 20 countries worldwide and his compositions have been included in over two dozens of albums and compilations. Dario’s composition “Game Over” has been featured for the promo trailer of the TV Series “Lie to me season 2” for Fox Tv Japan. Dario resides in New York City.
