Thorsten Büttner

- GERMAN TENOR IN BIG LYRIC / LIRICO SPINTO FACH -

The german Tenor Thorsten Büttner was born in the region in Stuttgart, where he already, as a boy soprano, sang lots of solo roles at the State Opera Stuttgart.
He studied at the University Mozarteum Salzburg opera voice and graduated as the best of his vintage. In 2008 he was part of the first ‚Young Singers Project‘ at Salzburg Festival’. Thorsten Büttner already got honored for his successes with the ‚Lilly-Lehman-Medal’ as well with the ‚Gottlob-Frick-Medal’ and got nominated as ‚best upcoming singer‘ by the magazine ‚Opernwelt‘ in 2011 for the title role of ‚Idomeneo‘.

He has been finalist in lots of competitions as the ‚Paris Opera Competition‘ 2014. In 2012, as the only german singer, he was part of Domingo’s ‚Operalia Competition‘ in Beijing.
He has been a member of different ensembles at Vlaamse Opera Antwerpen as well as State Opera Mainz for several years and his repertoire reaches, beside others, from the title role of ‚Idomeneo‘ over Lensky in ‚Eugen Onegin’ up to Alfredo in ‚La Traviata’. Now the tenor works as a freelance artist and already performed in opera houses as State Opera Saarbrücken, State Opera Wiesbaden or Opéra Municipal Marseille…

At the Schloßfestspiele Zwingenberg 2016 he expanded his repertoire as Max in ‚Freischütz‘ into the bigger ‚Fach‘. The role of Max in ‚Freischütz, he also performs in the same season at Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken. He sang at Staatstheater Oldenburg again Macduff in ‚Macbeth‘ as well as Earl Boni in ‚Csárdásfürstin‘ at Theater Magdeburg.

In the season 2016/2017 Thorsten Büttner performed, beneath others, as a guest as Macduff in ‚Macbeth’ at Theater Augsburg or as Bob Boles in ‚Peter Grimes‘ at Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken.

In the season 2017/18 he sang at the Nederlandse Reisopera scenically Steuermann as well in concert Erik from ‚Der Fliegende Holländer‘.

He made his debut with Prinz in ‚Rusalka‘ at the Staatstheater Darmstadt in the season 2018/19. During that period he also sang his first Florestan from ‚Fidelio‘ in concert at the Beethoven Night Heidelberg as well as his first Verdi-Requiem as soloist at the Dome of Mainz, where he returned for Rossini’s Stabat Mater.

In the seasons 2021/22 and 2022/23 he has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Trier, where sang Danilo in ‚Die Lustige Witwe‘ Mario Cavaradossi in 'Tosca as well with the title roles in Verdi's ‚Don Carlo‘ und Britten's 'Peter Grimes'
In the season 2023/24 he will return there as a guest for Don José in Bizet's 'Carmen'.
