Francesca Gerbasi

Mezzo-soprano, she graduated in Opera Singing at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice. Holding a degree in Biology, she further specialized in Artistic Vocology and in Performing Arts Medicine. Among her teachers are Elīna Garanča, Federico Longhi, Vivica Genaux, Giancarlo Pasquetto, Claudia Sisca, Luisa Castellani, Alda Caiello, and Francesco Erle.

She works across the full spectrum of vocal performance, with a repertoire ranging from Renaissance and Baroque music to avant-garde and contemporary works, with particular attention to Argentine, Spanish, and early 20th-century chamber music. As a singer and performer, she has premiered numerous contemporary works and tackled repertoire in over 22 different languages.

A recurring performer at La Biennale di Venezia, she has appeared with several chamber and orchestral ensembles across Italy and Europe (Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Principality of Monaco), on prestigious stages such as Teatro La Fenice (including the premiere of Fenix DNA by Plessi-Sparano), Teatro Malibran in Venice, Teatro Mario del Monaco in Treviso (including María de Buenos Aires by A. Piazzolla and Gianni Schicchi by G. Puccini), Teatro Verdi in Pordenone, and Teatro Litta in Milan, especially in roles for world premieres.

In 2016, she founded El Trio a’ la Moda, focusing on the rediscovery and revaluation of traditional Venetian-language repertoire and unpublished transcriptions, recording the collection Arie e canzonette veneziane, published by Marzorg.

She has worked under the baton of Riccardo Muti, Sir András Schiff, Peter Eötvös, Gianluca Capuano, Arturo Tamayo, Martín Palmeri, Claudio Ambrosini, Renato Miani, and Francesco Lanzillotta.

In July 2019, she was the only Italian mezzo-soprano admitted to the Académie de Musique Rainier III in Monte Carlo.

In 2020, she won the MusicaPura competition for the premieres of Sequentia and Amôrs by R. Miani.

In February 2022, she was part of the second cast for the world premiere of Le Baruffe by G. Battistelli at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. In the past year, she performed the role of Criside in Satyricon by Bruno Maderna and Estrelle in La vita è sogno by Gian Francesco Malipiero.

As a teacher, she has given masterclasses on Italian repertoire at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, in Hong Kong, and at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice. She also coaches numerous choral ensembles, conducts workshops, and collaborates with speech therapists on vocal rehabilitation and body awareness therapies.
