About Francesca Gerbasi

Classical

Mezzosoprano, graduated in Biological Sciences at the University of Calabria, studied lyrical singing first in Cosenza and then in Venice, where she graduated with Giancarlo Pasquetto. She has participated in numerous masterclasses, among the professors Elina Garanca, Luisa Castellani, Alda Caiello, Claudia Sisca, and Federico Longhi.
She deals with all-round vocals with a repertoire ranging from Renaissance and Baroque music to avant-garde and contemporary, with particular attention to the international repertoire and chamber music of the early twentieth century.
As a singer and performer she has participated in numerous world premiére performances by contemporary authors: Canti di Babele by M. Gatto (2012), Tremita l'aria (2013) by C. Ambrosini, Goodbye Beauty (2014) by S. Fômina, El campanar (2016) of CG Ginjaume, Dos Canciones Populares de Garcia Lorca (2016) by M. Gatto; Sette canti romantici (2016) by G. Testoni; Cuenta de la rosa (2016) by R. Russo; Lentamente la Luna (2017) by M. Di Bari, Akwardsfamilyphotos.com (2018) by F.Domìnguez.
She has also worked on the historical twentieth century repertoire by performing the Sieben Frühe Lieder by A. Berg, El Amor Brujo and Siete canciones populares by M. De Falla, the Folksongs by L. Berio, Stripsody by C. Berberian, La perfezione di uno spirito sottile by S. Sciarrino, the Nonsense Madrigals by Ligeti, the Berliner messe and the Miserere by Arvo Pärt, Le Quattro liriche di Antonio Machado by L. Dallapiccola.
She has performed with numerous chamber and orchestral ensembles (ORCV Orchestra, the Pourquoi-Pas Ensemble, the Divertimento Ensemble) and in prestigious stages such as the "Mario del Monaco" Theater of Treviso, the Malibran Theater and the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Verdi Theater of Pordenone, Kunstverein Leverkusen auf Schloss Morsbroich, creating some of the premiere roles: Molly degli Aviatori (2012) by G. Testoni and M. Gatto; Le sette canzoni (2012) by G. F. Malipiero; Così fan tutte (2013) by W. A. Mozart; Il Gioco del vento e della luna (2014) by L. Mosca; Le nozze di Figaro (2015) by W. A. Mozart; Il campanello and Il giovedì grasso (2016) by G. Donizetti; L'aumento (2017) by L. Chailly; Fenix DNA (2017) by G. Sparano, Maria de Buenos Aires (2018) by A. Piazzolla.
Coming from three important debuts: "The seven last words of our Saviour on the Cross" (Haydn), conducted by Andàs Schiff; and "Missa Tango" by Martìn Palmeri; with M.Palmeri and M.S. Pietrodarchi; Petite Messe Solennelle, by Gioachino Rossini; Dixit Dominus by J.F.Haendel and Magnificat by J.S.Bach, cond. Gianluca Capuano, for Hohemens Festival.
In 2016, together with Silvio Celeghin and Angelo Liziero, he founded "El trio a 'la Moda", a project to rediscover and re-evaluate the Venetian language and Venetian chamber repertoire with which she recorded the collection of Venetian arias and songs by Marzorg.
In parallel with his artistic activity she also teaches: she is the conductor of the choral "A. Peron ", recently held a masterclass on the Italian repertoire at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a tournée in Honk-Kong.
On July 2019, she is the only italian and mezzosoprano admitted to the "Formation Internationale Professionnelle Artiste des Choeurs" (FIPAC) de Académie Ranieri III de l'Opéra de Monte-Carlo.
She was Ciesca, at Treviso's Mario del Monaco Theatre, on December 2019. In 2020 she won the competition announced by MusicaPura, for the representation of the concert "Tracce di Friulanità", including the Prime Absolute music by R.Miani of the chamber cycles "Sequentia" and "Amôrs" in the version for lyric voice, in Friulian language based on texts by P. Cappello.
She has just inaugurated the new ClassicSound digital label, with an unpublished transcription of Ravel's music.
In February 2022 she was cover in the cast of Giorgio Battistelli's "Le Baruffe", a world premiere opera, and in January 2023 she is Criside in "Satyricon", by Bruno Maderna, at the "La Fenice" Theater in Venice.
She specializes in the post-graduate Master in "Artistic vocality, phoniatry and singing", at the Unicusano University of Rome.
