Floris Windey, born on 27 October 1987 in Ghent (Belgium). Floris began his musical studies at the early age of 11 with trumpeter Rudy Reunes at the “Academie voor Podiumkunsten” in Ghent (Belgium). Later in life he decided to first study Business Management at the “Mercator Hogeschool” in Ghent . After graduation he changed his mind, decided to pursue his dream and play the trumpet. He enrolled at the jazz department at the Conservatory of Rotterdam (Codarts). He is attending his 3rd year in which he is following main subject classes with Jarmo Hoogendijk, Wim Both, Ad Van Zon; he had also attended classes and workshops with Jan Van Duikeren, Ilja Reijngoud, Jörg Engels, Mathias Schriefl, John Ruocco, Johan Plomp, Klas Lindquist, Michel Herr and many more.
Floris is much influenced by a wide range of trumpeters like Wynton Marsalis, Erick Truffaz, Miles Davis, Ryan Kisor, John Swana,… but also other musicians and bands: Maceo Parker, Trombone Shorty, The Next Collective, Youngblood Brassband,…
By participating in many different projects and bands and now living in Rotterdam he has had the opportunity to perform at different festivals like: North Sea Jazz Festival, Jazzenede, Gaume Jazz, Jazz In’t Park, Pole Pole, Reggae Ruigoord, Reggae Geel, Kokopelli Festival, Dunya Festival, Bay Car Blues Festival,… He has worked alongside a various of artists like Renee Neufville, Pete Philly, Preston Shannon, Sax Gordon,…
Floris is also a fixed member of Re:Freshed Orchestra, BYJO (Brussels Youth Jazz Orchestra), Fatback Brassband, La Fundacion, El Combo Mundial and Fat Harry and the Fuzzy Licks (the backing band for Preston Shannon). He also works a lot with live DJs and as a freelance trumpeter in various other projects throughout Belgium and The Netherlands.
