Biography
Drummer, Percussionist, Singer, Instructor, Composer.

CUBA:

Ivan Llanes was born on December 30, 1985 in Camaguey, Cuba. At an early age, he began to show interest in music. He began his musical studies at age 10, at the Vocational School of art in his province of Luis Casas Romero. At age 13 he joined the orchestra "Estrellitas de la Charanga" participating in the "National Festival of Charanga Orchestra" in Palma Soriano on two separate occasions. Llanes then continued his studies at the Jose White Conservatory at the age of 15, were he received numerous awards as part of the competitive educational programs.

Ivan graduated 2004 at the top of his class, and began to pursue his career locally. He became a member of several different projects while honing his skills as a percussionist and singer. Within a few months, he began traveling throughout Cuba with some distinguished local bands.

In 2008, Ivan Moved to Havana to join the internationally renowned Cuban orchestra of Ricardo Leiva y Sur Caribe. As a part of this orchestra, he was able to refine his skills on drum set and percussion whist being exposed to a wider variety of popular Cuban music. After spending quite sometime on the scene, he began expanding his horizons and developing an interest in Jazz. He was fortune enough to collaborate with prominent creative music artist such as Waldo Mendoza and Leo Vera, among many others.

In 2010, Ivan joined the Grammy-Nominated Orlando " Maraca" Valle in his orchestra "Otra Vision". Under the musical direction of Maraca, a world-flute virtuoso; Ivan began combining the use of the Drum-set and Timbal. He Began rapidly developing the skills necessary to master Maraca's complicated compositions and style of play.

NEW YORK

After the United States tour (2011) with Maraca, he began to focus on developing his musical career and decided to live in the U.S., he made his way to New York in February 2012, where he could evolve alongside a melding pot of the world's top musicians and artists. Since then, Llanes has become and indispensable member of the Latin and Latin Jazz communities, respectively. He has performed alongside numerous renowned artists including Descemer Bueno, Marlow Rosado, Carlos Vives, JenCarlos Canela, Xiomara Laugart, Raul Paz, Jesus Diaz, MTG ALL STARS, Franci Vazquez, Mario "Mayito"Rivera, Jose Pepito Gomez, Tirso Duarte, Michel Herrera, Jorge Luis Pacheco, Miguelo Valdez, among many others. Also started to collaborate in the American scene with Hank Lane Music and Production Company, Singing and playing percussion.

A milestone in his career, Llanes was invited to participate in a private video performance series created by Latin Percussion founder, Martin Cohen for Congahead.com. Ivan's first video showcased his compositions where he was featured on Drum-set, Timbal, and Vocals. The second video brought together a part of the new generation of Latin percussionists living in New York City, in a piece composed for percussion ensemble by him.

Ivan is currently working on his own project, a brainchild of the sessions the proceed, Cuban Way. It is an effort to reflect the wide variety of Ivan's influences, while incorporating elements of Timba and Folklore in creative setting, while showcasing the energy and passion that his has become well known for. He got invited to perform with his band, in the Havana Film Festival April 5th at Bronx Museum (2013), and he have turned that night into an beautiful lovely and successful moment...
