About Natalia Gerakis | Flutist

Classical

Natalia Gerakis is considered one of the most accomplished Greek flutists. Both Stuttgart- and Athens-based, she has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player at major halls and festivals throughout Germany and Greece, as well as in numerous European countries, in Asia, Africa and South America.

She has been principal flute of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and performed among others with the Stuttgart State Opera House (Chamber Theater), Wuerttemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, Athens State Symphony Orchestra, Athens Camerata/Armonia Atenea. She has also been principal flutist of the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (Marseilles/FR) and member of the scholarship program of the Ensemble Modern Frankfurt (Paxos Festival/GR).

As a soloist she has interpreted works by J.S.Bach, A.Vivaldi, C.Ph.E.Bach, W.A.Mozart, M.Arnold, A.Ginastera, A.Marquez, G.Bizet/F.Borne, F.Poulenc, J.Ibert with the Bosch Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, Stuttgart University Academic Orchestra, Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta-Chamber Orchestra Chania/Crete, Athens Youth Symphony Orchestra, Athens Philharmonia Orchestra, the Academica Athens Orchestra, the Orchestra of Universidad Mayor Santiago/Chile.

She has recorded contemporary chamber music compositions for the Greek Radio & TV, as well as the Bayerischer Rundfunk. She has also recorded the CDs: Terra e Aria (works for flute & piano) released by Spektral Records/GER and CLAUDE DEBUSSY la musique à moi by Utopia Records and the editions Mikri Arktos/GR.

She completed her studies in Paris at the Nadia & Lili Boulanger Conservatoire (under Geneviève Amar and Vicens Prats) with the '1er Prix de la Ville de Paris', as well as in Stuttgart at the State University of Music & Performing Arts (under Prof. Jean-Claude Gérard) on a scholarship of the Greek State; she has also gained an Alexander S.Onassis Foundation scholarship.

Natalia Gerakis is currently Flute Professor at the prestigious Athens Conservatoire. Moreover, she teaches Flute Methodology at the State University of Music & Performing Arts Stuttgart/Germany (Staatliche Hochschule für Musik & Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart), as well as Flute at the Faculty of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

In addition she is a respected and sought-after flutist among international courses (Adams European Flute Center/Holland, International Forum for Flute & Piano/Luxembourg, European Academy of Camerata Europaea/GER-GR, Springiersbach Summer Courses/DE, Deutscher Tonkünstlerverband Instrumentenkurse/Germany, Semaine de la Francophonie Lusaka/Zambia, Universidad Mayor Santiago/Chile, 'Lilian Voudouri' Music Library of Greece).
