About Michael Publig

Jazz Classical Crossover

As a musician and as a composer Michael Publig stands for musical diversity and pursues an open musical path “among all worlds”. His music is a symbiosis of elements from jazz, contemporary (serious) music and Latin American.
It is his special concern to give classical performers an understanding of the jazz and Latin American elements.


PIANIST: graduate studies with Roland Batik; musical projects in the serious music sphere (chamber music), Jazz, Brazilian music and Flamenco.

Currently he performs with «Brasiliade» (a duet with Stefan Oser, guitar, playing Brazilian music); with cellist Tomasz Skweres (playing Jazz Chamber Music), with the Lighter Side Trio & Quartet (with Monika Stadler on harp) and with various Jazz Chamber music settings, among them a Flamenco program with guitar and string quartet and a dancer (El Viento Andaluz), as well as with «Caliente», a Latin Jazz quartet with Antonis Vounelakos, guitar.
 
COMPOSER (pieces in both spheres, serious and light music): winner of several composition competitions.
Performances in Europe, Asia, Australia and US.

ARRANGER, PUBLISHER: publications in all areas from numerous international publishing houses (A, USA, China);

TEACHING ACTIVITIES: international workshops and masterclasses for piano, improvisation, jazz chamber music and theory of jazz harmony (among them at the Vienna music university and the Vienna conservatory); he also teaches at the Amadeus International School.

Editorial manager, member of jury (e.g. Austrian National Price for Composition); producer of numerous CDs;
organizer of jazz chamber concerts.
