Mezzo-soprano Sophie Michaux was born in London and raised in the French Alps. The Boston Musical Intelligencer characterized her voice as “luscious,” “velvety,” and “ever so slightly smoky.”   Recognized for her enthralling presence and her audacious interpretation, she maintains an active performance schedule in Europe and the United States under directors Gabriel Garrido, Jean-Marie Curti, Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, Dana Maiben, Lidiya Yankovskaya, Adam Boyles among others. She appeared at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Victoria Hall (Geneva), Festival Radio France (Montpellier), Festival du Périgord Noir (France), Festival Europa Musa (France), Goethe Institut (Boston), and the Musée-Château d’Annecy (France). On stage, her roles include Hermia (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Mercedes (Carmen), La Pythonisse (David et Jonathas), Orontea (Orontea), and Laertes (Hamlet). She collaborates with some of Boston’s most active Opera companies such as Boston Metro West, Lowell House Opera, Helios Early Opera, Boston Metro Opera, and Longwood Opera. Sophie will be singing the role of Lucretia in Opera Brittenica's Production of  The Rape of Lucretia in October 2013 and the Third Lady in Longwood Opera's production of  The Magic Flute in November 2013. In 2010, she was a soloist at the Egida Sartori and Laura Alvini Early Music Seminar in Venice, Italy, directed by René Jacobs, and with the Brockton Symphony Orchestra in 2011. In February 2012, Ms. Michaux was a finalist at the FAVA's Grand Concours de Chant in Austin, Texas. She was a finalist in The American Prize National Competition in the Opera division in 2013.  She is a graduate of the Haute École de Musique in Geneva, Switzerland (BM, Early Music Vocal Performance), and of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge (MA) (Masters degree in Vocal Performance).
