Oscar Neira Project

During his time in Switzerland Oscar Neira participated in different musical projects in addition to completing his musical education. He then traveled to New York City to study with master saxophone player Richie Perry and submerge himself in the jazz scene of the big Apple. After returning to Geneva and under the influence of the jazz world and the strong musical traditions of his own origins, he formed a Latin Jazz sextet and that is how the Latin Project was born.
In 2005 Neira established himself in Barcelona where he participates in different jazz and Latin music projects. Neira got to know some of the best local musicians and created the Oscar Neira Latin Project in 2007.
The project made up of 7 musicians and an original repertory generated high expectations through favorable reviews and participation in the Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona alongside major jazz figures including Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman, Charles Lloyd and Michel Camilo.

In 2008 Oscar's received a proposition from record company ‘Batiendo Records’ to record his first album ‘Every Day’ which was released in 2009 and distributed by ‘Discmedi’.

After the release of Every Day and numerous performances in shows and festivals, the Colombian saxophone player started work on his second record. Looking for new sounds he created new musical arrangements for some of the original Every Day tracks and created a new repertoire.

The format of the band also changed to the dynamism of a Quintet featuring leading
artists in the genre: drums is Juan Luis Castaño (Venezuela), percussion Carlos “Compota” Reyez (Cuba), contra bassist Paco Weht (Argentina) and pianist Rafael Arciniegas Madagascar (Colombia).

With this new group and his original composition and arrangements Neira presents the audience with a fusion of jazz and a diversity of Latin rhythms like salsa, cumbia, bambuco and many others from his musical background, offering a trip through the genre of Latin Jazz.

OSCAR NEIRA - PROJECT
ORIGEN Y TRAYECTORIA
Durante su estadía en suiza Oscar Neira participa en diferentes proyectos
musicales, ademas de completar su formación profesional al termino de
la cual viaja a Nueva- York para estudiar con el gran saxofonista Richie
Perry y aprender de la gran escena jazzistica de la gran manzana. De
regreso a Ginebra influenciado por el Jazz y sus propios orígenes forma
un sexteto en el genero del Latin Jazz y este es el comienzo del Latin
Project.
En 2005 Neira se instala en Barcelona donde integra varios proyectos de
jazz y música latina , conociendo así grandes músicos locales y latinos de
la escena barcelonesa con quienes forma en 2007 el Oscar Neira Latin
Project.
La banda conformada por 7 músicos y con un repertorio original genera
gran expectativa y participa en el VOLL-DAMM FESTIVAL
INTERNACIONAL JAZZ BARCELONA , compartiendo cartelera con
artistas de la talla de Sonny Rollins ,Ornette Coleman, Richard Bona,
Charles Lloyd y Michel Camilo entre otros..
En 2008 recibe la propuesta de la discográfica “Batiendo records” para
gravar su primer álbum que lleva por nombre EVERY DAY y que sale al
mercado distribuido por “Discmedi” en 2009.
Después del lanzamiento en 2009 de su disco Every Day y haber actuado
en diferentes salas y festivales, el saxofonista colombiano prepara su
segundo disco con dicho proyecto.
En busca de un nuevo sonido hizo nuevos arreglos para algunos temas
de Every Day ademas de componer un nuevo repertorio. También, ha
cambiado el formato de la banda de septeto a la fuerza y dinámica del
Quinteto.
Para dicho efecto cuenta con la participación de grandes músicos
conocedores del genero como son: el baterista Juan Luis Castaño
(Venezuela),el percusionista Carlos Reyes”Compota”(Cuba) el
contrabajista Paco Weht (Argentina) y el pianista Rafael
Arciniegas”Madagascar” (Colombia).
A través de este nuevo Quinteto y su música Neira ofrece al espectador
una mezcla de ritmos latinos como la salsa, cumbia, bambuco y otros
fusionados con el jazz. Un viaje de alto vuelo a través de un estilo con
nombre propio: El Latin Jazz.
