Paulina van Laarhoven graduated with a solo diploma after studying the viola da
gamba with Margriet Tindemans, attending classes with Wieland Kuijken and Jordi
Savall. Her passionate playing has led to her being invited to perform with many of the
world’s leading Early Music Ensembles, including L’Arpeggiata, Atalante, Cantus Köln,
La Fenice, The Harp Consort, Huelgas Ensemble, Het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble,
Pantagruel, The Ricercar Consort, Scorpio Collectief and Sirius Viols. She is also a
founding member of La Sfera Armoniosa and now fronts her own ensemble La Violetta.
Aside from numerous CD’s of Renaissance and Baroque music Van Laarhoven has
also recorded other genres, like Symphonic Metal. From 1993 1995
she worked with renowned German choreographer Reinhild Hoffman as a soloist and musical director. In 1998 she worked with NDT III (Netherlands Dance Theatre) in a production directed by Erik Vos. Paulina gives yearly master classes at the UNAM (Universidad Nacional
Autónoma de México) and plays concerts with La Violetta Mexicana.
Van Laarhoven’s deep interest in the performance practice of basso continuo led her to
explore the long neglected lirone, on which she is now recognised as one of the worlds
leading players.
La Violetta has released two very well received CD’s: Io son ferito (2012) and Pulchra
es (2014) The third is to be recorded in 2015 by Zefir Records.
