Suster Bertken by Rob Zuidam
Katrien Baerts, Huub Claessens, Asko|Schönberg o.l.v. Reinbert de Leeuw
Attacca CD 2011.126

Andreas Weent (P.J.Wagemans) Worldpremiere
“(Operamagazine 22 Okt 2012)

Guru by Laurent Petitgirard (Naxos)

The Rake’s Progress (Strawinsky), Rotterdam
“The vocal star of the evening was by far the bass-baritone Hubert Claessens as the devil Nick Shadow, in fact the shadow of Tom Rakewell, performed by Thomas Randle.” (....)
(Haagsche Courant)
“ Stars of the evening were Hubert claessens as Nick Shadow and Arthur Stefanowicz as Baba the Turk.”(....) (Parool)
“ Very good main parts sung by, among others, Hubert Claessens (Shadow).”(...) (NRC Handelsblad) “ Nick Shadow was performed by Hubert Claessens with impetuousness and irony.”(...) (Trouw)
The Rake’s Progress (Strawinsky) in Winterthur

(MARVELOUS SINGING AND ACTING)

“Hier”(Guus Jansen) with the Netherlands Opera Amsterdam (Audi)
“Bass-baritone Hubert Claessens performed with pathos the tragical hero Hier.” “Hier”, personified by the masterly singing Hubert Claessens changing from a bassing baritone to a panic falsetto.....” (Het Parool)

Golgotha (martin) with Marc Soustrot.
“....and the soloists sang beautifully wih the exception of Hubert Claessens, he sang particularly beautiful.” Volkskrant

Gilgamesj (Martinu) with Jacques Mercier
“Particularly the bass Hubert Claessens was strinking because of his brilliant timbre and his realistic pronunciation of the czech language.”

A Survivor of Warsaw (Schönberg)- Amsterdam Concertgebouw- Orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw conducted by Claus Tennstedt.
“....he seized the opportunity to make his debut with the concertgebouworchestra performing an example of exquilibrated ‘Sprechgesang’ and made it a thrilling experience.” (Trouw)

a New Year’s Eve concert in Maastricht (nl)
“...Hubert had the evening in hand. He is very natural on stage. Apart from irreproachable singing his kind and cheerful performance did define the atmosphere; he acts, directs and conducts when it is needful, he plays the saxophone beautifully and besides he doesn`t forget to be courteous and considerate to all other things happening on stage.” (Limburgs dagblad)

Requiem (Verdi) Leiden
(HIGHLY NUANCED AND MOVING)

Orfeo (Walter Hus) Hebbel-Theater Berlin

Oresteia (Xenakis) with Jurjen van Hempel

“….the starring role was the devilish Leonard, lively and compelling portrayed by Huub Claessens…….”

Soldaten Requiem (Martinu)...Philips Harmonieorkest

Alte Oper Köln (Saxophone) Rising Star Tour
(Frankfurter Neue Presse)

Wereld Muziek Concours Kerkrade Openingsconcert.(Saxophone)
TO BE A SUPERB SOLOIST WITH AN IMPRESSIVE TECHNIQUE IN THIS VERY DIFFICULT PIECE….”.
Met A BRILLIANT TECHNIQUE AND A BEAUTIFULL SONORITY als basis zorgde de saxofonist voor A SWIRLING INTERPRETATION”

AS A REAL VIRTUOSO horen...”

Recital at the Megaron (March 1998)
review from the daily newspaper “ELEFTHEROS” (1/4/1998), see below the translation:
PRESTISSIMO… (original title)
“On the first day of March we have listened to the recital of young Dutch Rising Star mezzo-soprano Xenia Meijer at Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall of Athens Megaron. Xenia Meijer has already sung many parts in Europe and has received raving reviews. In her Athens recital, she presented works of composers from various eras (Purcell, Mozart, Brahms, Debussy, Rossini, Granados, Hans Eijsakers, Ravel and Joaquin Nin), so that we had a chance to see her flexibility in moving with ease and grace from one musical style to another. Charismatic Meijer knows how to seduce the audience by using her warm, expressive and well-supported voice. It would be a fortune if we could see her again in our country singing Rossini this time, since she would have a lot to give to his music thanks to her flexible voice and theatrical temperament. The pianist (and composer) Hans Eijackers proved himself to be an accompagnateur of high standard, producing a sound full of sentiment that both embraced and highlighted the singing. We need to give special praise to the sensitive sax player Hubert Claessens, known to collectors from his Mozart recordings with conductor Jean-Claude Malgoire”.
