Janko Kastelic is a seasoned conductor, chorus master, and music educator with over three decades of international experience across Europe and North America. His career spans leading institutions such as Opernhaus Zürich, Wiener Staatsoper, Theater an der Wien, and the Bayreuth Festival, where he has worked with world-renowned orchestras, choirs, and stage directors.

Recognized for his artistry in opera, symphonic repertoire, and choral direction, Janko combines performance excellence with a passion for mentoring the next generation of musicians. His leadership has shaped productions at prestigious venues while fostering cross-cultural artistic collaborations.

Fluent in five languages, he brings a truly global perspective to music-making and education. Beyond the podium, Janko is dedicated to connecting people through music, whether guiding young singers, directing ensembles, or initiating community-based cultural projects.

Highlights of his career include serving as Chorus Master at Opernhaus Zürich, Kapellmeister of the Hofmusikkapelle in Vienna, and General Music Director of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor. He has collaborated with eminent conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Daniele Gatti, and Gianandrea Noseda, and contributed to acclaimed recordings and performances worldwide.

About Janko Kastelic

Janko Kastelic, is a Canadian-Slovenian conductor, chorus master, pianist, organist-cembalist and educator. He began his musical education in Canada at the Royal/Western Conservatory of Music and St. Michael's Choir School. He holds a Bachelor's degree in conducting, composition, and music theory from the University of Toronto and continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna.

He was one of the Kapellmeister`s of the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle, Studienleiter of the JET Program for young singers at the Theater an der Wien and assisting at the Bayreuth Festival and guest chorus master at the Hamburg State Opera. He currently was the chorus master at the Zurich Opera House.

Other previous positions include General Music Director and Opera Director at the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor, and 2nd chorus master at the Wiener Staatsoper and Repetiteur at the Opera National de Paris. He has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Ljubljana and a mentor at the Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversität.

His artistic achievements are highlighted by live recordings, including Tchaikovsky's "Pique Dame" and Schoenberg's "Moses und Aron". He also arranged and conducted Mozart's pieces for the Mozart Year 2006 celebrations. His work at the Klangbogen Festival in Vienna includes the European premiere of Bloch's "Macbeth".

Fluent in multiple languages, Kastelic's other interests include improvisation, mountaineering, and travel. His career is marked by a blend of academic rigor and practical experience and is also a dedicated educator, committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
