José Antonio Guerrero Ortiz was born in 1979 in Corpus Christi, Texas, raised in Monterrey, N.L., Mexico. José Antonio has been a performer for twenty-five years, five years of which have been devoted to the study of Flamenco guitar and its music with the Ballet Nacional Folklorico.

He began studying classical guitar at the age of 8 under the teachings of classical pianists Kim Bryce and Sarah Reina, also, classical guitarists Philip Hii, Tony Morris, Michael Soupkup, Michael Perez, Gabriel Ayala, Mark Anthony Cruz (Composer/Classical Guitarist), and currently under the teachings of Dr.Kürsad Terci. José Antonio has performed in master classes which included the likes of Los Romeros Guitar Quartet(Pepe and Celin Romero), Flamenco guitarist Juan Serrano, Fernand Vera from Kithara Duo, Dr. Matthew Hinsley (Director of ACGS), and Bolivian guitarist Javier Calderon.

At 18 years old, José Antonio further expanded his musical direction by joining Latin Talk. As a member of Latin Talk and salsa combo, José Antonio shared the stage with such influential artists as Strunz and Farah, Jose Feliciano, Lara and Reyes, and Guadalupe Esparza (from the Mexican Norteno group)“Bronco”. Aside from performing in the nationally recognized Texas Jazz Festival, José Antonio has taken his skills to various regions of Texas including Houston, Dallas, the Rio Grande Valley, Laredo, San Antonio to mention a few. He has also performed in Monterrey, NL, Mexico.

As a composer José Antonio was honored to have three of his compositions for solo guitar, Prelude, Nocturne, and Fantasia (Homenaje a Dimitri Fampas), which he dedicated to Maestro Fampas’s daughter, Greek guitarist, Eva Fampas in 2009 in Athens, Greece.
