Ever since receiving the prestigious Juventus Award - previously awarded to e.g. Piotr Anderszewski and Emmanuel Pahud - at the age of 20, Julien Libeer has been described by national and international press as one of the most remarkable musicians of the younger generation.
Over the last years, he has been the guest of the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, London’s King’s Place Concert Hall, the Théâtre de la Ville (Paris) and the Juventus Festival of Cambrai. He was invited by such festivals as Menton and Radio France Montpellier (France), to great critical acclaim.
An ardent chamber musician, Julien Libeer studied with members of the Artemis and Alban Berg String Quartets, and performs regularly with the best of the new generation such as Julian Steckel, Alissa Margulis, Lorenzo Gatto...He is a permanent member of the Avanesyan Trio.
Apart from exploring the great repertoire, Julien Libeer is a convinced advocate of the music of Romanian pianist and composer Dinu Lipatti, and regularly collaborates with contemporary composers. His commission to American Bryan Christian, Watercolor, was premiered at his debut for the Brussels Palais des Beaux-Arts in 2011.
A protégé of Maria João Pires, Julien Libeer will perform regular chamber music and solo concerts with the renowned pianist during upcoming seasons. Other engagements include Sinfonia Varsovia, Brussels Philharmonic…
His playing has been the subject of a documentary on Belgian national television.
After finishing his studies with distinguished professors Daniel Blumenthal (Brussels) and Jean Fassina (Paris), Julien Libeer becomes 'artist in residence' at the Queen Elisabeth College of Music. He works for two years under supervision of Abdel-Rahman El Bacha, before joining the class of Maria João Pires. He has benefitted from regular advice of Dmitri Bashkirov.He is a permanent member of the Avanesyan piano trio.
