About Päivi Vesalainen

Classical

Päivi Vesalainen is a Finnish keyboard player with an exceptionally broad musical scope ranging from mediaeval to contemporary music and from solo repertoire to orchestral works. She has a Master of Arts degree both in early music performance and music pedagogy, and she has been awarded soloist diplomas in harpsichord, basso continuo, and modern piano.
Ms. Vesalainen has studied harpsichord at the Sibelius Academy with Elina Mustonen, Anssi Mattila, Annamari Pölhö, and Assi Karttunen. In addition, she has also studied harpsichord at the Piccola Accademia di Montisi with Cristoph Rousset, Ketil Haugsand, and Bob van Asperen.
As a harpsichordist Ms. Vesalainen is regularly heard with several early music ensembles representing different genres, such as Zefiro, Ombra Sonora, Sonus Borealis, and Duo Eero Saunamäki & Päivi Vesalainen. She has also performed as a harpsichordist and organist with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Storia, the Finnish National Opera, and several symphony orchestras.
Ms. Vesalainen maintains a wide repertoire, and she adores less well-known early music and modern music composed for early instruments. In 2016 alone she has premiered three contemporary works.
