About Shoushik Barsoumian

Classical

Shoushik Barsoumian has been invited to sing in national opera houses and theaters in both Europe and the United States, appearing in notable roles such as Gilda (Rigoletto), Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore), Anoush (Anoush), Musetta (La Bohème), Oscar (Un Ballo in Maschera), and Isabella (L’inganno Felice). Quite at home on the concert stage, she has showcased her wide-range of capabilities in performances of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Mozart’s Mass in C minor, Stravinsky’s Svadebka and Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre. Having a great interest in her Armenian heritage, Ms. Barsoumian regularly performs with the Lark Musical Society and the Dilijan Chamber Music Series, presenting chamber works of Komitas and Tigran Mansurian as well as orchestral works of contemporary American composers who find inspiration in Armenian melody and poetry. Such composer is Ian Krouse, with whom Ms. Barsoumian has collaborated since 2013, featuring in the World Premieres of his vocal cycle, Fire of Sacrifice, and his momentous Armenian Requiem.
Ms. Barsoumian has worked with vocal coaches and teachers Mirella Freni, Olga Toporkova, Gabriella Imre, Rene Sousa, and Cynthia Munzer. She has had the fortune to work with conductors Vatsche Barsoumian, Donato Renzetti, Alfred Eschwé, Pietro Mianiti, and directors of the operatic stage, Stephen Barlow, Leo Muscato, Nicola Berloffa, and Robert Dornhelm. Shoushik is the 1st Place award winner of the Pasadena Opera Guild 2018 Vocal Competition.
